Putin Responds to Trump’s Plea for Ukrainian Soldiers
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a readiness to ensure the safety of Ukrainian soldiers currently stationed in the Kursk region. This statement came as a response to an appeal from US President Donald Trump, who called for the safeguarding of these soldiers’ lives. Putin emphasized that a complete surrender and withdrawal from the Kursk territory is imperative to fulfill Trump’s request.
“To effectively implement the US President’s call, it is crucial that the military-political leadership of Ukraine issues an order to its troops to lay down their arms and surrender,” said Putin. He assured that the soldiers would receive humane treatment and their lives would be protected.
Putin further stated, “If they surrender, they will be guaranteed life and decent treatment in accordance with international law and the laws of the Russian Federation.” He also accused Ukrainian forces of committing numerous offenses against civilians in the settlements captured during last year’s unexpected incursion into Russia’s western Kursk region.
“We must highlight the fact that Ukrainian militants have perpetrated numerous crimes against civilians in the invasion zone, which are classified as terrorism by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation,” Putin added.
The Russian military, supported by North Korean troops, is reportedly on the verge of ousting Ukrainian forces from their positions in Russia’s Kursk border region, marking a potential major blow to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Putin also held discussions with US envoy Steve Witkoff regarding the Washington proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, requesting Witkoff to relay Moscow’s views to President Trump.
