QBE Elevates Maths Stanser to Lead European Distribution Efforts
QBE, a prominent commercial insurer, has announced Maths Stanser as the new head of distribution for its European markets. This strategic appointment follows the transition of Fabian Desch, who assumed the role of General Manager for QBE Germany last year.
Based in Stockholm, Maths Stanser will spearhead broker engagement, design distribution propositions, and expand the broker network across key European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.
With an impressive career spanning three decades in the insurance sector, Maths has most recently served as QBE Nordics’ General Manager. Over the past seven years, he has managed distribution responsibilities across Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway.
Stanser embarked on his insurance journey in 1995 as a financial lines underwriter with AIG Europe. He further enriched his expertise by joining Aon as Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Financial Institutions before joining QBE as the Nordic GM in 2018.
In his new role, Maths will report to Andy Besant, Chief Customer Officer at QBE European Operations. Besant remarked, “We are transitioning from a follow to a lead position in European markets. Maths’ remarkable track record will be vital as we implement this ambitious strategy, which includes an enhanced multinational proposition, increased risk solutions support, and additional client management resources.”
During his tenure as GM of QBE Nordics, the region’s premium size quadrupled, earning recognition from brokers as a top cyber insurer. Maths successfully grew the Nordic team from 18 to 47 members, solidifying QBE’s position in property and general liability sectors, aligning with the broader continental Europe ambitions.
Maths will remain a key figure on the European management committee, under the leadership of Beatriz Valenti, Director of Insurance for Europe, to support QBE’s growth initiatives across the continent. While QBE seeks a new Nordics GM, Maths will continue to oversee operations for the Swedish and Danish branches.
