Türkiye Sigorta Joins the BIST Sustainability Index with Robust ESG Initiatives
Türkiye Sigorta has been recognized for its strategic efforts in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas, as well as its integrated management approach and comprehensive sustainability policies, by being included in the ‘BIST Sustainability Index’.
Strengthening its leading position in the insurance sector with both financial performance and a commitment to environmental and social responsibility, Türkiye Sigorta successfully met the inclusion criteria for the ‘Borsa Istanbul (BIST) Sustainability Index’.
Demonstrating its commitment to transparency in environmental and social responsibility through robust reporting processes, Türkiye Sigorta published its first TSRS-compliant sustainability report in 2024, which was independently audited. The company also prepared a carbon footprint statement within the GHG Protocol framework, verified by TSE at a high assurance level, highlighting its dedication to environmental accountability.
Planning for a Sustainable Future
General Manager of Türkiye Sigorta, Taha Çakmak, remarked on this achievement, stating: “Our success is a testament to the policies we have implemented in corporate governance, our TSRS-compliant reporting structure, and our multi-dimensional sustainability strategy shaped by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNGC, WEPs, and UNPRI commitments. Our holistic approach, encompassing digital transformation, eco-friendly products, social inclusion, and corporate governance, has significantly contributed to our improved LSEG ESG score. Emphasizing sustainability principles in its corporate governance, Türkiye Sigorta signed the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) on September 30, 2024, reaffirming its dedication to upholding international standards in business ethics, human rights, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. The company has made a substantial impact by contributing directly to over 10 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Türkiye Sigorta’s systematic progress in sustainability has allowed it to fully meet the criteria for inclusion in the BIST Sustainability Index. The company raised its LSEG ESG score, which underpins the BIST Index, to 76. To qualify for the index, companies must have an overall sustainability score above 50, with each main category score exceeding 40 and at least eight category scores above 26.
In addition to its environmental initiatives, Türkiye Sigorta significantly supports sports as part of its social responsibility efforts. Since 2022, it has been the title sponsor of the Basketball Super League and the Turkish Basketball League. The company further strengthened its support by becoming the main sponsor of the National Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams. As of 2023, Türkiye Sigorta provides individual sponsorship to Wheelchair Tennis National Team athlete Zeliha Aksak, Para Swimming athlete Sevilay Öztürk, and Paralympic tennis player Uğur Altınel. In collaboration with the Turkish Basketball Federation, the company has also constructed basketball courts and organized 3×3 tournaments in provinces severely affected by the February 6 earthquakes, including Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and Adıyaman, to encourage youth participation in sports.
